2012 date:
31st January - 7th February

2013 date:
29th January - 5th February

2014 date:
28th January - 4th February

Arrival at Mangareva: After your arrival at the Gambier Islands on Air Tahiti at mid-day on Tuesday (flight VT951 - which you can book online at www.airtahiti.aero) you will cross the big Gambier Islands lagoon to Rikitea village (on Mangareva Island) on the Air Tahiti ferry boat. After meeting the SRV Discovery at the main wharf where the ferry boat ties up, every passenger will be assigned his/her own bunk and have their passport stamped for departure. All food will be supplied during the voyage.

Pitcairn Island: After approximately two days at sea you will arrive at Pitcairn Island. You will be invited to stay onshore with local families. Your host family can be arranged in advance if needed, or more normally, the local people will arrange you host family on your arrival at Bounty Bay harbor.

The cost for your stay ashore is not included in our pricing and you should budget approximately US$70 per night for full board (to be paid in cash direct to your host family). This type of ecotourism has been encouraged in the last few years as a way of boosting the island's economy in a sustainable way.

There are also a private bungalows for rent - for example, the 'Pitcairn Chalet' owned by Brenda and Mike Christian - see www.christian.pn. Another option is the self contained unit 'Te Kiva Bounty Accommodation"  owned by Charlene and Vaine - email: vainechar@pitcairn.pn

Return voyage to Mangareva: We depart Pitcairn on Saturday afternoon and after approximately two days at sea arrive in Mangareva.

Temoe Atoll: Occasionally we stop here for a few hours for some snorkeling and scuba diving along the lee side of the atoll - but this will depend on weather and the progress of our return voyage.

Arrival in Mangareva: We aim to arrive in the Gambier Islands on Monday afternoon and will anchor at Rikitea to enable visits to this picturesque village. Other things you can organize are a tour around the big island (Mangareva) and a visit to a pearl farm if time allows.

Note: The two-week Pitcairn Islands Explorer trips are ideal for those who want some uninhabited island time; scuba diving; bird watching, and more time for soaking up the history of Pitcairn by living ashore with the island families - Price US$3,400
