Join us for an Expedition to the
Pitcairn Islands in 2011:

2011 Voyage Dates:

  • Pitcairn Explorer (2 week): 18th Jan - 1st Feb
  • Birding Expedition (2 week): 1st - 14th Feb (fully booked)
  • Pitcairn Voyage (1 week): 22nd Feb - 1st March
  • Pitcairn Voyage (1 week): 1st - 8th March (fully booked)
  • Ducie Expedition (3 week): 29th March - 19th April

We offer three lengths of voyages to the Pitcairn Islands. These expeditions have different itineraries and focuses:

1) Our one-week long 'Pitcairn Voyage' option visits only Pitcairn Island. You will be staying ashore for about two or three days.

Accommodation options include:
a) A private chalet owned by Brenda & Mike Christian (click here)
b) Home stay lodging with local Pitcairn families

Accommodation with one of the local families on Pitcairn is generally organized upon your arrival at Pitcairn, but passengers are also free to contact one of the local families in advance, and arrange this directly with them.

The islanders will be happy to show you around their spectacular little island - there is a lot of history to be found on this speck of land in the middle of the mighty Pacific Ocean. Price US$1,900.

2) Our two-week long 'Pitcairn Islands Explorer' option visits three of the Pitcairn islands: Pitcairn, Oeno Atoll and Henderson Island. Learn first hand about Pitcairn's lifestyle and history by sharing the homes of the local people. A guided tour by the local islanders around their spectacular little rock in the ocean is breathtaking, and will your trip the travel experience-of-a-lifetime.

Weather permitting, we also visit two to the outlying islands. Stepping ashore on Henderson Island (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) makes arriving at the ends of the earth something you will never forget, plus visiting uninhabited Oeno Atoll is also great for diving and beach combing fans. Price US$3,400.

For more details on this voyage see the Pitcairn Islands Explorer page in the 'Voyage Options' section above

3) Our three-week long 'Ducie Expedition' visits all the islands of the Pitcairn group (ie Pitcairn, Ducie Atoll, Henderson Is and Oeno Atoll) plus Temoe Atoll and the Gambier lagoon in French Polynesia.

Learn first hand about Pitcairn's lifestyle and history by sharing the homes of the local people for a few days. Fish for your lunch & bird watch at the newly discovered Adam's Seamount 80km east of Pitcairn. Explore Ducie Atoll - the remotest speck of land in this part of the world. Step ashore on Henderson Island (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and camp on Oeno (weather permitting).

The three-week Ducie Expedition is ideal for those who want more on-island time - more diving - more bird watching - and more time soaking up the history of Pitcairn. The three-week trip is priced at US$4,900.

For more details on this voyage see the Ducie Expedition page in the 'Voyage Options' section above

Air Tahiti flights to Mangareva (Gambier Islands):

Air Tahiti fly to the Gambier Islands every Tuesday (flight VT951, departing at about 7am) and return to Tahiti the same afternoon arriving about 5pm. This is the flight we meet (in both directions) so you will only have a few hours in Mangareva on your outward journey to Pitcairn. You will have more time in Mangareva on your return from Pitcairn as we often plan to arrive back in the Gambier Islands on Monday afternoon and stay overnight at Rikitea Village.

On your arrival in the Gambier Islands, Air Tahiti will bring you on their ferry boat from the airfield across the big lagoon to Rikitea Village, where you will find the SV Southern Cross tied up to the main wharf.

You can book your Air Tahiti tickets online at www.airtahiti.aero

Scuba diving on our voyages:

If you are an enthusiast for Pitcairn history, plus always dreamed of diving the wreck of the HMS Bounty, then book a berth on one of our voyages. You will find plenty of beauty to be discovered in the waters surrounding these islands - plus dive the wreck of the Yankee Clipper 'Wild Wave' at Oeno Atoll and the 130 year old wreck of the supply vessel 'Cornwallis' at Pitcairn. The vast majority of the coral reefs around these islands are awaiting FIRST TIME EVER UNDERWATER EXPLORATION! You can dive on any of our voyages - but note that the three-week 'Ducie Expedition" offers greater opportunities for diving - so we suggest you use this trip if you are a real dive enthusiast.
