Traveling with Pacific Expeditions
Come with us on a liveaboard adventure in the Pacific. Visit uninhabited
islands, dive with sharks, sing with the locals… discover
paradise.
We have been taking people where they want to go in the Pacific
since 1989. We would love to take you too.
You can charter us for a scientific expedition, or you could join
a planned voyage to dive the crystal clear waters of remote atolls.
Things you’ll need to know when traveling with us
Meals
We provide all meals. Breakfast is a “help yourself”
meal - we put out cereal and toast etc, you eat it. There’s
also tea, coffee and milo (a type of chocolate drink if you do not
speak kiwi english). If you would like filter coffee please bring
this with you. Lunch ranges from pasta, to salad, to sandwiches.
Dinner may be fresh fish (if we’ve put out a line) or other healthy options according to sea conditions.
Our crew cooks, but if you
are a wiz in the galley and want to share this skill with us, we
would be pleased to be your guests. If you have any special dietary
requirements, let us know in advance of departure – there’s
not many supermarkets in mid-pacific!
This is an adventure voyage and we rely on you letting us know what you would like to eat - with any luck it may be on board.
Fresh Water
As on most boats we have a limited supply of fresh water. You can
drink our tank water and we can make it hot for showers but it’s
important that all crew and passengers respect the importance of
being conservative with water use. However, you can flush the toilet
as much as you like, as this is sea water!
Snacks
We provide some snack foods. But if you have an appetite for chocolate
& chips we recommend you bring your own supply - we wouldn’t
want you to suffer withdrawal symptoms!
Soda and Alcohol
Soda/pop and alcoholic drinks are not included in the price. However,
we do have a small supply to sell to passengers, but you are also
welcome to bring your own. We keep drinks cool as needed.
Smoking
Smoking is permitted onboard, but only on deck. We request that
passengers extinguish their cigarettes and place them in the bin.
We don’t like feeding them to the fish and seabirds –
thanks.
Age Restrictions
There are no age restrictions onboard the Bounty Bay. Please talk
to us about your specific needs for children or elderly passengers.
First Aid and Medication
We have a good first aid kit to deal with cuts, bruises and minor
emergencies. If you have special medication, be sure to bring a
good supply with you, in case we are delayed due to bad weather.
And please let us know about your medical condition or any illness
you suffer from, for example asthma, diabetes or bee sting allergies.
It’s important that we know about this so we can assist you
if necessary. Also avoid close contact with pointy finned, sharp
teethed, underwater objects. Now for the good news! - Generally,
no vaccinations are necessary in the central Pacific - which is
also a malaria free zone.
Sea-sickness, Sunscreen and Insect Repellent
Please make sure you have these items! Your enjoyment of the trip
may depend on it. (We do carry a small supply of these items if
you have forgotten yours.)
Bedding and Towels
We supply sheets, pillows, pillowcases and towels. And we have a
clothesline to hangout all that drippy stuff.
Personal Space
Our accomadations are dormatory style, thus there is only a limited amount of space, and no-where to really get-away from others: hence, it is important
for everyone’s comfort that personal belongings are kept tidy
and there is respect for other peoples personal space. Should you
need a break from human company we may be able to put you ashore on
an uninhabited island (eg Oeno, Suwarrow) – we’ll provide you with a tent
and pick you up in the morning (if we remember that is) Do not forget your insect repellent and have some decent coral reef
walking shoes with you, such as sneakers or diving booties.
Island Culture
One of the highlights of any voyage is visiting local communities
– This is usually on a casual basis and benefits both parties.
Be flexible and make the most of every opportunity, eg visit the
local school and tell the children where you are from, the best
sort of geography lesson. Accommodation and food is rarely organized
until the last moment – be happy with the adventure of it
all.
We Provide
Snorkeling gear to checkout the reef; tents and sleeping mats for
camping on uninhabited islands; and expert information on the islands,
reefs and wildlife.
